The “pata de cuche” machete represents, in many ways, the prototypical machete shape. Fairly evenly weighted along the entire blade, it is easily slipped in a sheath for portability.

By far the best machete I have ever owned. It comes fairly sharp, but using a bench grinder it can be made razor sharp and it will hold that edge through hours of swinging. After sharpening it, I,ve used this thing to cut through things up to about 2 inches in diameter with one swing. I’ve cut down small tress with this machete in 10 swings. It’s unstoppable.
On another note, I had a friend once take jt and start swinging the flat side against a tree like its a baseball bat. I was so annoyed and assumed it was going to be bent beyond repair. Nope! It’s still straight! I’ve gone swimming with it countless times and always get scared it will rust, but seemingly as long as you just wipe off excess water on your shorts after its fine. It took ages for this thing to show signs of use and even now, 3 years after I bought it and almost daily heavy use, it still is in good condition. I don’t know what you plan on doing with this machete but it’ll do the job. It’s a tank.

I have 8 machetes, and this is my Longest, and best performing one. This machete comes out of the box with a “decent” edge, but can be sharpened to Razor Sharp, cause that’s what I did. DO NOT be disheartened by it’s slight floppiness, or that the blade’s thickness is an 1/8″ thick, cause this machete is designed to be light, and to be swung around all day and not be tired, it also cleaves through thicker branches , because of its thinness. Ya I hit metal pipes, brick and rocks with it (by accident, of course) and the metal doesn’t chip, nor fear of it breaking, it doesn’t bend neither. I’ve been swinging at bushes for 4 hours straight in landscaping and didn’t feel sore or tired afterwards.
It is indeed almost 34 inches long, so it can’t really be swung in “tight quarters”. Also make sure no one is near you within 5 feet, you have a long-reach radius when you swing…
Buying the “Machete specialists” brand sheath for this machete was a good choice, too. very nice quality.
